Open Coast was established in the year 2000 with the objective of
providing travelers access to Japan. Our staff have lived and worked
in Japan, which has furnished us with a great understanding of its
unique culture. Having traveled worldwide we came to appreciate Japan's
untouched beauty and undiscovered treasures. After returning to the
U.S. and realizing that few people have visited Japan's more remote
regions, we felt that a unique opportunity existed in providing travel
services to these areas.
Japan remains one of the safest countries in the world with one of the
lowest crime rates. Even in Tokyo, the world's largest city, the streets
are safe day and night. The friendliness and warmth of the Japanese make
this country the perfect place to vacation alone, with a small group
or family.
Let our experience and expertise, assist you in creating a Japanese
vacation suited to your interests. All of our customers receive outstanding
personalized service ensuring satisfaction and providing memories that
will be treasured for a lifetime.
Trip Coordinators & Tour Guides
Lisa Slater, originally from London England, has always enjoyed the
great outdoors. Having trekked the Himalayas, camped throughout South
and East Africa and traveled through most of Asia, her appreciation of
nature and different cultures has been fueled by her travel experiences.
Lisa became a Dive Master in Egypt in 1995 and a certified PADI Open
Water Instructor in 1997. Her interest in diving increased as she traveled
to various exotic locations. For the past ten years her work in tourism
has taken her to Trinidad and Tobago, Egypt, Honduras and Japan. She started
in Tokyo by leading weekend trips to Shimoda, a resort town near there.
Lisa continued on to work at the ski slopes of Nigata and then the warmer
climate of Japan's South-West Islands. A published writer on the subject
of diving in Japan, Lisa is one of the few bilinguals qualified to coordinate
trips and act as a guide in this region.
John
Chandler was first introduced to scuba diving at age 15 and enjoyed a
childhood of surfing and diving around the warm waters of the Caribbean
and Florida. He served in the U.S. Marines for 29 years and during his
active duty was fortunate enough to be able to travel extensively throughout
Europe and Asia. During his travels John developed a passion for photography
and when the service posted him near the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans or
the Mediterranean Sea, he turned his camera to things underwater. He has
remained active in diving and photography ever since.
Certified as a PADI Dive Master in 1982, John has continued to lead
dive trips around the world. In 1996 John took time off to earn
his PADI Open Water Instructor certification and later advanced through
Master Scuba Diver training and IDC Staff Instructor. Since May
of 1998, John achieved the distinction of Master Instructor with more
than 600 certifications. Since his assignments always seem to bring him
back to Okinawa, this wonderful island has been John's second home for
more than 15 years.
